The Property

Haslemere Hall has been at the heart of local events for more than 100 years.

The historic building has a fully equipped theatre seating around 340 people across its main auditorium and upper balcony. It also provides a thriving venue for clubs, events and social activities.

Richard Oldham, Hall Manager, explained that a building more than a century old constantly requires attention through repairs, renewals and modernisation.

Improvements are undertaken as funds permit, with the Trustees mindful of their responsibility to maintain the Hall as a valuable amenity for future generations of Haslemere residents.

The Challenge

Careful consideration was therefore required when the Trustees decided to replace the Hall’s ageing windows.

The existing windows were made from steel and featured single glazing. Although some had been replaced around 1970, many dated back to the Hall’s original construction in 1913.

The single glazing provided poor insulation, resulting in high heating bills and excessive condensation.

Some of the frames had also rusted through, while others had developed mould around their edges.

Choosing The Right Windows

Due to the age and architectural design of the building, it was essential that the replacement windows reflected the original styling while providing the benefits of modern double glazing.

Met Therm’s AG210 metal windows met these requirements, combining slimline frames and traditional styling with improved thermal performance.

Richard was also delighted that the Hall could obtain the windows from a local company.

A Flexible Installation

The installation programme had to remain flexible to ensure that the work caused minimal inconvenience to visitors and event organisers.

Met Therm understood the importance of keeping the venue operational and scheduled the installation around the Hall’s shows, activities and other commitments.

This allowed the historic venue to continue serving the local community while the window replacement work was completed.

Improved Thermal Performance

Following the installation, Haslemere Hall has been able to maintain a steadier temperature throughout the building.

The improved frames and double glazing have helped reduce heat loss while addressing the excessive condensation that affected the original windows.

The Hall has also noticed that condensation no longer forms on the window surfaces.

Faithful To The Original Windows

Richard commented that one of the highlights of the installation was that none of the local residents or key visitors to the Hall had noticed the windows had been replaced.

This was particularly pleasing, as he had initially been concerned that replacement windows might alter or detract from the appearance of the historic building.

Instead, the Met Therm AG210 windows provided modern double glazing while fitting seamlessly with the Hall’s original architectural styling.
